I suppose it was inevitable that Star Trek fan films would work their way to TikTok, and geek / nerd / English major / singer / songwriter / poet / genius ELLE CORDOVA has been using the new format to make some AMAZING short videos. In fact, I just spent an hour watching everything on this playlist and more by this unbelievably talented and gifted young woman. So start your journey with the video below and then follow Elle down the rabbit hole…

These are “mini” fan films that just make a Trekkie wanna laugh!
Funny video: You’re a Mean One, Mr. Spock
The countdown is C-minus TEN days till Christmas morning, and there’s someone green, who does not like to be at all merry, looking to spoil all of your fun! I refer, of course, to the half-Vulcan/half-human Mr. Spock. And thanks to the brilliant and conscientious editing talents of Mr. JOHN C. WORSLEY, we can hear the irascible Dr. Leonard McCoy “singing” that ol’ holiday favorite: YOU’RE A MEAN ONE, MR. SPOCK…
Funny video: The One Where the DS9 Credits Have a FRIENDS Theme…
This video is awesome for a number of different reasons, not least of which is the inspired brilliance of recreating the opening credits to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a Friends theme (both musically and thematically). But what really makes the video work is the selection of the clips—a combination of mostly one-person and two-person shots—both in and out of uniform but showing the characters doing very UN-characteristic things. In other words, it FELT like the whimsical opening to Friends, rather than simply looking like someone had tossed together random cuts of DS9 with “I’ll Be There for You” playing under them. It amazed me seeing the diversity of fun costumes and situations that the main cast of DS9 had gotten themselves into over seven seasons. Enjoy…
Funny video: All I Want for Christmas
Merry Christmas! Ho-ho-ho! And what could be a better way to celebrate this joyous holiday than with a rousing rendition of the old favorite All I Want for Christmas performed by Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his jolly crew? But don’t be too confident that you know what’s coming because things can get a teensy bit unpredictable on the ol’ Enterprise-D. Enjoy this expertly-edited fan film—and to all: a good night…
Funny Video: A Band of Starships
When Star Trek: Voyager premiered, one of the major fan controversies was why in heck those nacelle pylons would need to move into a different configuration in order to go to warp??? (But hey, at least they were ATTACHED!). Fans have been debating the “variable geometry warp nacelles” for nearly a quarter of a century. But now, thanks to CGI animator SERIN JAMESON (and friends), we finally know what those movable nacelles are useful for. Aha…!
Funny Video: Election 2158
So, the election is finally over (even if we’re still counting votes). But at least all those political ads are behind us for the next 2-4 years, right? Well, maybe here in America they’re over (although not in Georgia!). But on Romulus, the campaign for Praetor is still going strong—at least according to this fun vignette “commercial” from MARK NACCARATO, who recently released Part I of THE ROMULAN WAR fan film. While we wait for Part II, please consider re-electing D’Deridex as Praetor. “Keep Romulus Great”…
Funny Video: STAR TREK: DISCOVERY in the 32nd Century
As we get ready for the premiere of the third season of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, we know that our zany crew of jumpsuit-wearing, mushroom-minded, and potty-mouthed misfits are about to take a time-jump journey into the far, far future. Granted, this is not the first time a sci-fi TV series has employed this concept. Heck, it feels like just yesterday that Captain William “Buck” Rogers was himself an astronaut flung out of time. So why not just mash-up the two series into a new opening credits sequence that is 900 SHADES OF AWESOME…
Funny video: QUARANTINED
Never let a pandemic ruin an opportunity to take a pot-shot at STAR TREK: DISCOVERY…or so it seems for SCOTT BAKER, a writer, director, and Steadicam operator from Los Angeles. His independent film, 5th Passenger, featured Star Trek alumni TIM RUSS, MARINA SIRTIS, ARMIN SHIMERMAN, MANU INTIRAYMI, HANA HATAE, and DOUG JONES. In his spare time, Scott is also a decent cartoonist, and his first Trek-themed parody short from 2016, CEASE AND DESIST, lampooned the just-announced CBS fan film guidelines. Nearly four years later—with the help of fan film actors RYAN T. HUSK and RICO E. ANDERSON, along with MALĂSSA LONGO (widow of the recently passed and sorely missed ARON “Nog” EISENBERG)—Scott sets his parody sights on both the global quarantine and the most controversial canon changes in Discovery, with hilarious results…
FUNNY video: Star Trek Fandom Forecast
KATIE ANNE NICOLAOU is a weather forecaster on KMEG Weekday Morning News in Sioux City, IA. She’s cute, perky, and does a really good presentation of the weather (which is MUCH harder than you think, folks!) Recently, just for fun, she began doing short videos of weather forecasts for various franchises that she’s a fan of…including Pokemon, Ducktails, Survivor, Star Wars, and Star Trek. You can watch all of her releases via this playlist, but I found the Star Trek one (presented by Katie wearing a blue TNG-era tunic) to be particularly entertaining. And it just goes to show that fans can be anyone, anywhere, doing anything. Go, Katie…!
FUNNY video: Shatner Of The Mount (and sequels!)…
Back when he was filming the Yosemite scenes for Star Trek V, WILLIAM SHATNER recorded a behind-the-scenes segment providing his insights as writer and director. Specifically, “The Shat” discussed Kirk’s free-climb of El Capitan and why he decides to put his life at risk climbing that mountain. This deeply contemplative commentary was included when the Blu-ray for Trek V was released in 2009 along with a collection of the other five TOS feature films to coincide with the theatrical release of J.J. Abram’s first Star Trek reboot movie. Shortly thereafter, an audio and music studio in Hollywood and Brooklyn called Fall On Your Sword spliced together a surreal edit (quite brilliantly, I must say) of Shatner’s mountain musings and added in a musical soundtrack. Many of you have probably seen the result…
But it didn’t end there. A year later, Fall On Your Sword Studio produced an elaborate parody of their previous parody! And this time, not only did they get their own actor to play Shatner, they actually cast the mountain, too…along with adding in a bunch of dancers, a hot tub, a plate on donuts—oh, just watch it already…!
In 2012, Star Trek Conitnues‘ VIC MIGNOGNA did his own take on the concept…
And since this is the Internet, folks, anything that can be done can be done again…and again. So before we leave Captain Kirk to climb and make love to his mountain, let’s take a quick listen to the 8-bit Nintendo Mario Bros. version…
